Reflection
Over this semester I have learned a variety of new, and useful information. When we first got this assignment, I wasn’t very excited about the whole idea. However, I really liked how we were able to choose any topic we wanted. There were pretty much no stipulations. Deciding on a topic was a lot more difficult then I expected it to be. I first began with thinking about what different topics interested with me. When I thought about my major and what I wanted my career to be later in life I realized that there was no better topic for me. Criminal analysis or also known as criminal profiling has always had made me interested ever since I decided that, that was what I wanted to do later in my life. This topic would also be very useful for my other classes because psychology is my major and crime and delinquency is my minor.
Before this class, whenever I did research I generally used whatever websites I found and then if I needed a book for a project then I would search the library for a book. I had a general understanding on how to identify a credible website. I knew about databases but I never really used them because the whole idea of them confused me. However, this class has been able to help me understand it a lot better. I used the academic search premier for this assignment because I found this database very easy to use. During this class I also learned how to properly search for things. I learned about what key words to use and which ones not to use. This helped me a lot when I was using the databases because I was able to do an advanced search to narrow my results.
When it came down to choosing which sources I would use for my annotation, the task was very simple. Because we were given the CRAAP test to help evaluate whether or not a source was reliable; choosing sources was easy. For each source I made sure that it was published at least in the last 10 years and I made sure that if it was a website, then it had the credibility. I tried to have a mental checklist when I went through each source, and decided if it was good enough to use for my annotations.
For each of my citations, I used MLA. I really liked how I was able to choose how I was able to site my source. We were also able to use websites that helped us site our sources like Easybib.com. For this project we have to cite every source that we use because if we were actually writing a paper, then we would have to site it because otherwise that would be considered plagiarism.
In the end it was easy to put together everything. I had an example of how to write an annotation biography, which was easy to follow. It was cool to put everything on a website because it was interesting to see how much research I had did for the research question.
